Lesson 1.1 – 3D Design & Project Planning
Every great pool starts with a solid plan.
In this lesson, you’ll create a build-ready design using a copy of your property’s survey or site plan. You’ll determine the best location for your pool while considering setbacks, easements, utilities, drainage, and available backyard space.
You’ll also finalize your:
- Pool type
- Pool size and dimensions
- Pool shape
- Deck layout and entertaining space
- Equipment pad location
- Spa, tanning ledge, water features, and other optional upgrades
By the end of this lesson, you’ll have a completed design that serves as the blueprint for the rest of your project.

Compare the pool styles below and decide which best fits your home, lifestyle, and budget.
- Modern – Clean lines, geometric shapes, minimalist design.
- Freeform – Natural curves with a resort-style feel.
- Traditional Rectangle – Timeless, elegant, and ideal for swimming.
- Luxury Resort – Includes features like spas, sun shelves, fire bowls, waterfalls, and infinity edges.
